Christ is our centre

Jesus Christ is at the centre of all that we do. This extends beyond weekly chapel sessions and Bible-based lessons and themes, to incorporating prayer and God’s Word into daily activities and your children’s lives beyond the classroom. In addition to strong academics, we emphasize your student’s spiritual growth in faith, prayer, Christian fellowship and knowledge of the Gospel.

Philosophy

Eastside Lutheran College educates with a Christian philosophy and aims to impart to students a strong focus on the Christian code of ethics such as honesty, integrity and responsibility. Students are supported by experenced staff and a continuing on-campus Chaplaincy program. Our teachers recognise their unique ministry as Christian role-models.

Setting

Eastside Lutheran College is situated in a tranquil bushland setting of approximately 7 hectares with magnificent views of the Derwent River and Mount Wellington.

The college is centrally located less than ten minutes from the Hobart CBD.

History

Eastside Lutheran College (originally named St Peter’s Lutheran School) was established in 1982 by the congregation of St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hobart as part of its Christian outreach to the wider community. Its original location was in the house next to the church in Davey Street. In 1985, as enrolments increased, the school moved to its new premises on the Eastern shore of the river and has been more recently known as Eastside Christian School.

At the end of 2002 the School moved towards offering a complete secondary curriculum and in November 2004, it was decided to change the name to Eastside Lutheran College.

Eastside Lutheran College is a school of the Lutheran Church of Australia and its development is overseen by the Lutheran South Eastern Regional Director, Dr Ken Bartel. Eastside Lutheran College is a thriving, dynamic, outward-looking community that learns and lives according to the college’s motto ‘Christ Our Rock’.

The Lutheran Church

The Lutheran Church, the world’s oldest and largest protestant church, is one of the world’s major churches. It dates back to the Reformation and the teachings of Martin Luther. Luther insisted that the Bible is the authority that decides what the church should teach and do. The word ‘Lutheran’ was given to the people who believed that Luther was correct in his interpretation of the Bible. There are over 60 million Lutherans worldwide.

Lutheran Education Australia

There are 35,000 students enrolled in Lutheran schools across Australia, having experienced 5% growth every year for the past 10 years. This growth has been mostly from non-Lutheran families to the extent that less than 20% of enrolments  in Lutheran schools across the country are Lutherans.
