USE OF COMPUTERS
The College provides computer resources as an integral
part of its educational program.
All use of College computers, including access to online resources, will
be in keeping with the accepted philosophy and standards of the College,
as well as the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia.
Students will therefore be mindful of maintaining a positive, supportive
and productive learning environment. Computer resources will be shared
courteously and efficiently, with the needs of others being respected
at all times. Students will only make changes to their own files, and
will not install or use any additional software not authorised by the
College.
Use of computers will always be related to the College curriculum unless
specific permission has been granted by the Information Technology Co-ordinator.
As with any research, information accessed via computer will be appropriately
acknowledged in accordance with College guidelines on references and bibliography.
As part of Eastside's continuing commitment to maximising access to educational
information, students may have access to the Internet or other online
services.
The internet is a global network linking computers of libraries, governments,
businesses, professional and common interest organisations, as well as
individuals. It is not centrally managed and as a result, material that
is inaccurate or otherwise in conflict with the philosophy of the College
may be located. However, it is believed that the educational advantages
of internet use outweigh the potential for abuse of acceptable use expectations.
This is not only because of the vast amount of curriculum-related information,
but also because the opportunity of communicating, accessing and analysing
these increasingly important technology-based resources is vital for developing
life-long learning skills.
In accordance with acceptable use of computers, as outlined above, students
accessing information from the internet or other online services will
be particularly aware of:
• the necessity of exhausting all freely accessible information
sources before requesting online searches.
• the need to access information for accuracy.
• copyright laws as well as Eastside expectations regarding plagiarism
and acknowledgement of sources.
• students are not permitted to communicate with people outside
the school. Teachers may make exceptions on an individual basis.
• teachers to check student emails before they are read or opened.
Images with gif extensions may not be opened without permission.
• no programs, music, sounds, videos, animations, MP3s, games zip
files etc. may be downloaded without teacher authorisation.
• Eastside’s standards relating to inappropriate material.
• Efficient and responsible use of time.
• the laws of deformation that apply to material published on the
internet and that a breach of these laws may result in the student being
liable in damages.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY
Students should be in attendance at all College sessions. A prior written
explanation or telephone call to the College between 8.15 - 8.45 am on
the morning of absence is required if a student is to be absent from College
for part or all of the school day.
Students need to be at College by 8.45 am. Punctuality for all lessons
is essential.
College hours are from 8.50 am to 3 pm. The school buses leave at 3.05
pm.
LATE-COMERS
Latecomers must present themselves to the Administration Office to be
registered as late, not absent. The Student Diary will be stamped with
a "Late Stamp".
LEAVING THE CAMPUS DURING THE DAY
During College hours students are not to leave the campus without permission.
Consideration for leave will be given only for urgent reasons and in exceptional
circumstances.
When students wish to get a leave pass, they must present a clearly dated
note of authorisation to the Principal's Secretary. To protect the College
and individual staff members in the event of litigation over injury/accidents,
this will be strictly enforced. Therefore, if for any reason a student
cannot present the required authorisation, permission to leave will not
be granted.
This also applies to students claiming to have parental authorisation
for medical or other appointments, unless those claims can be confirmed
by telephone.
LITTER
We are personally responsible for the condition of the College campus
and buildings. Litter should be placed in the bins provided. This rule
is based on aesthetic and hygienic considerations. It is consistent with
anti-litter laws which
exist in the outside community.
CHEWING GUM IS NOT ALLOWED ON CAMPUS.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
No students are to have mobile phones, radios, walkmans, MP3 players or
other such technologies in their possession, unless prior arrangement
has been given by the Principal.
LOCKERS
At the beginning of the College year each student is allocated a locker.
Students may only have access to lockers before and after school as well
as prior to recess and lunch time. For security reasons, students are
requested to lock their lockers. Valuables, including money should be
lodged with the Administration Officer for safe-keeping.
COLLEGE BUILDINGS
Before school and during recess and lunch time, students are asked to
remain outside all classrooms and buildings, unless they are under the
care of a teacher.
UNIFORM
All students are expected to by neatly dressed in the appropriate uniform
at all times.
Formal uniform- should be neat, clean and well-maintained
at all times. No other items of clothing should be visible under the uniform
(t-shirts under college shirts should be plain white).
Sports uniform - is only to be worn on designated sports
days; parents and students are asked to make themselves aware of these
days. There may be variations to the designated sports days and notification
of such changes will be made in the school newsletter or by class teacher
notes, as required.
Sports uniform and formal uniform are not to be mixed and matched.
Jewellery - shall be limited to a single sleeper or stud
style ear-ring, worn in the lobe of the ear, (this is a health and safety
issue) and wrist watches. No other jewellery or ornaments are permitted.
Make-up - no make-up or nail polish is to be worn at school.
Hair - hairstyles and colours are to be subtle and tidy. Outlandish
hairstyles are unacceptable. Hair longer than collar length must be tied

Allergies - students with diagnosed allergies to some fabrics
may not be able to wear certain items of our uniform; there are alternative
items available so please see the Uniform Coordinator.
Exemptions to these requirements may be given at the Principal's discretion.
Applications for exemption must be submitted in writing.
