Primary School
Prep to Year 6
At Eastside Lutheran College, we pride ourselves on ensuring every student feels valued as part of our vibrant learning community, where each child's individuality is celebrated.
Working in close collaboration with parents, guardians, and carers to support the personal, social, emotional, and academic development of every student, our commitment is to nurture a safe, inclusive, and caring environment where children are encouraged to shine, grow in confidence, and reach their full potential.
Our primary school follows a structured daily routine with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, ensuring each child’s learning is targeted to their individual needs. We utilise the Playberry Laser program to support literacy development, and implement Daily Mathematics Review to strengthen numeracy skills.
Core Curriculum
At Eastside Lutheran College Primary School, classroom teachers deliver the majority of learning to their student cohort through a transdisciplinary approach to learning.
A transdisciplinary approach means that students explore concepts, issues, or problems by integrating perspectives and skills from multiple disciplines, rather than learning each subject in isolation. This method connects learning across subject boundaries, allowing students to see deeper real-life relevance and make meaningful connections between what they learn.
Transdisciplinary learning encourages critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and helps students understand the interconnectedness of knowledge, better preparing them for the complexities of the world beyond the classroom.
Specialist Subjects
At Eastside Lutheran College Primary School, all students across every grade participate in specialist subjects. Through these lessons, students benefit from a broad and engaging curriculum that encourages the development of cultural understanding, musical expression, physical fitness, and personal well-being.
Every child is included in these specialist programs, which not only enrich the educational experience but also help nurture confidence, creativity, teamwork, and a lifelong love of learning.
At Eastside Lutheran College, we provide a Japanese language program in the primary years where all classes receive two lessons of Japanese a week and are supported to develop spoken and written skills and develop intercultural understanding. The program aligns with the Australian Curriculum: Languages (Japanese F-10), is inquiry focused and at times is transdisciplinary in nature.
Year 6 students are encouraged to lead younger children in cultural celebrations and extension opportunities are available for speech and calligraphy (according to year group).
Eastside Lutheran College offers a dynamic, school-wide music program that builds musical literacy, creativity, and confidence. Students develop strong listening skills and a deep understanding of the elements of music through listening, performing, and composing.
In further years, elective students in Years 9 and 10 take ownership of their learning by selecting their own instrument and pursuing individual goals. Experiences such as attending college productions enrich their understanding of live performance. A successful private tuition program in voice, drums, guitar, and bass guitar further supports students’ growth, nurturing artistry and a lifelong enjoyment of music.
At Eastside Lutheran College, Physical Education follows the Australian curriculum, helping students gain fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and game sense through active participation. Our lessons focus on skill development, fair play, and respect, supporting physical, social, and emotional growth.
Students learn by playing a range of sports and games, applying movement concepts and strategies in a supportive environment. This approach prepares students not only for lifelong physical activity but also for participation in our SATIS Sport Program, where they represent the College in inter-school competitions. Through PE, students build confidence, resilience, and a love of being active while forming positive connections with peers and the wider community.
At Eastside Lutheran College, our Health education program is informed by the Australian curriculum, empowering students to make healthy and safe choices for lifelong wellbeing. By exploring topics through practical activities, open discussion, and hands-on sharing of ideas, children build health literacy, understanding how to access, evaluate, and apply health information. Our program covers nutrition, safety, physical activity, relationships, and mental health.
Through engaging lessons, students develop essential skills for making decisions, communicating effectively, and contributing positively to their community. We focus on equipping every child with knowledge and strategies to thrive socially, emotionally, and physically within and beyond the school environment.
Lunchtime Co-curricular
Beyond the classroom, we offer a wide range of co-curricular activities during lunch breaks.
This variety ensures every child can find a fulfilling and engaging activity during their breaks, further supporting their personal growth and wellbeing.
