Secondary School

Years 7-10

The Year 7-10 program is designed to meet the development needs of students in early adolescence. This special phase represents an important stage in the growth and development of students as they face a range of physical, cognitive, social, and emotional challenges. Our broad curriculum options enable students to tailor their learning each semester.

Students are engaged and challenged in the learning through pedagogy that promotes students:

  • thinking about broader issues beyond home and community
  • engaging with diverse cultures and technologies
  • handling of new media and multi-modal forms of communicating
  • thinking abstractly about important ideas
  • engaging in authentic learning
  • seeking meaning in their lives at school and beyond
  • questioning individual identity and beliefs – their place in the world

Secondary students are guided and encouraged to be independent learners who are curious and creative in their approach to problem solving. Our curriculum is complemented by a focus on the development of key 21st-century skills and fluid groups based on the needs of the individual student.

Core Curriculum &
Module Program

Our Secondary Curriculum provides the opportunity to explore new areas of study through the College module program. Students select module units covering a range of subjects from a wide variety of disciplines to study alongside the Core Curriculum.

All subjects are developed in line with the Australian Curriculum.

Years 7 & 8

Information on Electives

Three Elective lines are offered in both Years 9 and 10, with the option of semester, year-long or two-year courses. ELC can also offer students on a vocational pathway the ability to engage in Certificate 2 & 3 VET courses from Year 10.

All Electives offered can lead to a variety of accredited Tasmanian Certificate of Education and VET (Vocational Education and Training) subjects.

Years 9 & 10

Module Program

The College Modules draw their content from different learning areas across the Australian Curriculum and often draw from more than one area, allowing for integrated units.

Year 7 and 8 students can choose from a range of Arts and Technology modules.

Students in Year 9 and 10 have the opportunity to undertake either term, semester or year-long modules and are encouraged to experience a range of learning experiences to allow for the identification of interest areas to support pathway planning and subject choice in Years 11 and 12.

Available Modules change each year depending on student interest and preferences.
